Senior Congress leaders want the government to take the initiative
to speak to party president Sonia Gandhi on the convening of a special session of Parliament to pass the GST Bill. Without the Congress support the constitutional amendment cannot be passed in both houses since it requires a 2/3 majority and 50 per cent of the MPs in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha should be present when it is being passed. The question being asked is whether PM Narendra Modi will take the soft line approach when the Opposition insulted him on the floor of both houses. For 10 years the Congress has been targetting Modi when he was Gujarat CM. Sources say Modi will not speak to Sonia.
