TN: Bus service hit but trains continue to ply

A correspondent in Tirunelveli:

For local travel, Tamil Nadu has a very good bus service but a very poor railway service. But today when the bus service in the state has been paralysed trains continue to ply both in Chennai and in rural Tamil Nadu.

Even little known stations like Kurumbur on the Tirunelveli - Thiruchendur line was crowded with more than a hundred passengers. Normally you will see less than ten people on this station.

Although shops have shut down across the state, restaurants, tea shops, vegetable shops and flower shops continue to do business with half their shutters down. Shops selling perishables are hoping to sell their stocks before closing down. Bewildered people can be seen at various bus stops not knowing what to do.  Private buses have gone off the road along with the state transport.
