Long distance travellers are have been all over the National highway.Vehicles coming from Ambasamudram have been blocked in Chernamahadevi.Shutters have been downed in Madurai. The city has come to a standstill.

But vehicles continue to ply on the ring round around the city. Traffic to the southern port town of Tuticorin is still open.
