Jadavpur University VC apologises on website

Days after violence broke out at the Jadavpur University after students were beaten up by cops, Abhijit Chakraborty, the vice-chancellor of the institution put up a message on college's website, which read, "I am sorry."

The university has remained paralysed as students stood their ground and demanded the vice chancellor's resignation for calling in the police on Tuesday to break up a student protest. The students also slammed Kolkata Police Commissioner Surajit Kar Purakayasta who, along with his force, had entered the university around 2 am on Tuesday night and allegedly dragged the students out and manhandled them.
