Military and police officials coordinating relief operations say their efforts are being hampered by a deluge of phone calls and messages from influential citizens seeking priority for their loved ones.
"I know people are really concerned for their loved ones and can understand their feelings,' a senior New Delhi-based Army official said.
"However, our resources aren't infinite, and diverting resources from an ongoing rescue operation means leaving someone else's loved ones to their fate.'
