Warren M Anderson, who faced prosecution as the chief of Union Carbide Corporation, which was responsible for the infamous Bhopal gas tragedy, has died. He was 92.

The poisonous gas leak at the company's plant in Bhopal in 1984 killed over 15,000 people (official figure) and affected thousands for years later.  Charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, grievous assault and killing and poisoning human beings and animals, he was soon released on bail under controversial circumstances. He was declared absconder in 2002, and therefore was not part of the case in which 8 people were convicted in 2010.
