Haryana: Godman Rampal won't appear in court today as well

As tension continued to mount in this town of Hisar, controversial Godman Rampal on Monday said he will not appear before Punjab and Haryana High Court today in the contempt case on health grounds.

The latest information was passed on to the media by the spokesperson for the godman's ashram Raj Kapoor.

Kapoor yesterday contended that the 63-year-old Rampal is not well, he said doctors will again review his health on Monday morning and see if he can travel to Chandigarh, which is about 270 kms from here.

Punjab and Haryana High Court had on Monday last issued a fresh non-bailable arrest warrant against Rampal in a contempt case and asked as to why his bail in a 2006 murder case should not be cancelled.

Rampal has been charged with interfering in judicial proceedings during the hearing of a case in the Hisar sessions court.

On July 15, his supporters had marched inside the district court complex in Hisar and tried to create trouble in the court proceedings.

The stand-off between followers of the godman based and security forces continued with the police failing to take him into custody till Sunday evening.

Hundreds of women and children, along with men followers of Rampal, continued to provide him shield by blocking entry of the security forces into the Satlok Ashram.
