Why did Ajit Seth get a six-month extension as Cabinet Secretary? At a quiet meeting among Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Home Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the list of eight IAS officers for the post, each one, it is said had a comment against the name.

So finally, in order to avoid embarrassment it was decided to let Ajit Seth stay on for six months more.

But the decision has also caused ripples within the bureaucracy. It is learnt that the decision has led to disappointment among many top-ranking secretaries in the Government of India.
