It is said that the slot being is kept warm for a senior official, Rajiv Mehrishi, currently chief secretary of Rajasthan who is known to be close to the BJP leadership. But Mehrishi has competition. The other name making the rounds for the top bureaucratic post is an IAS officer of 1978 batch from the Gujarat cadre.
