"Secondly, they did not use any governmental facility, least of all a naval helicopter. Thirdly, Manohar Parrikar, the defence minister, had not sanctioned the use of any defence helicopter for them. In fact, since it was purely a private visit, Manohar Parrikar was not even aware of the fact that they were in Goa."

The minister said that no activist has a right to "invent falsehood" and then publicise it over the social media and demanded the media organisations tender an apology and express regret over the same."

14:38   Legal loopholes led to Lakhvi's bail: Pak ATC
Legal loopholes, weak evidence and irrelevant sections invoked against Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the key planner of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, led to the granting of his bail, an Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad said.

ATC judge Judge Syed Kausar Abbas Zaidi, who had granted bail to Lakhvi on December 18, in his written order said that the evidence against 54-year-old accused was based on the statements of the officials of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) which apparently were 'insufficient' to refuse him bail.

The court observed that from the statements of the prosecution witnesses reveal that Lakhvi had been charged on 'hearsay' basis.

"It is also an admitted fact that not a single word has been uttered by Mohammad Mumtaz (witness) against Lakhvi," it said.

The registration of the FIR and the insertion of different sections of the law also benefited Lakhvi. The FIR was registered about three months after the incident.

11:44   Indian employee of cruise ship dies after falling into water
A 27-year old Indian, who worked on a Caribbean cruise ship, died after falling off the ship and was identified after his body washed up on a beach in the US state of Florida.

Cliford Minej of Thane, Mumbai was a worker on Holland America Line cruise ship. His body, dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, drifted ashore near Clearwater Beach in Florida and was spotted by someone walking on the beach, according to a report in Tampa Bay Times.

Multiple area law enforcement agencies searched land and sea and the Pinellas County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Minej's death accidental.

According to a statement from Holland America Line, the ship was at the end of a 14-day trip to the Caribbean. No other information about Minej was released.

10:14   Hacking row: North Korea calls Obama a monkey
North Korea called President Barack Obama "a monkey" and blamed the US on Saturday for shutting down its Internet amid the hacking row over the comedy "The Interview."

North Korea has denied involvement in a crippling cyberattack on Sony Pictures but has expressed fury over the comedy depicting an assassination of its leader Kim Jong Un. After Sony Pictures initially called off the release in a decision criticized by Obama, the movie has opened this week.

On Saturday, the North's powerful National Defense Commission, the country's top governing body led by Kim, said that Obama was behind the release of "The Interview." It described the movie as illegal, dishonest and reactionary.

"Obama always goes reckless in words and deeds like a monkey in a tropical forest," an unidentified spokesman at the commission's Policy Department said in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency.

He also accused Washington for intermittent outages of North Korea websites this week, after the US had promised to respond to the Sony hack.

According to the North Korea commission's spokesman, "the US, a big country, started disturbing the Internet operation of major media of the DPRK, not knowing shame like children playing a tag."

In an alleged violation of aviation safety norms, a daughter of a senior Air India executive travelled in the bunk which is only meant for resting of flight crew members as per the DGCA norms, during one of the airline's flight to Newark recently.

According to Rao, the daughter of one senior Air India pilot, was first allowed to sit on the jump seat and then rest in the bunk during the 14-hour long flight to Newark from Mumbai on December 13.

A jump seat in the aircraft is meant for non-operating staff.

"For take off, rest and landing she was illegally allowed to sit in the cabin crew horizontal rest area (bunk) by the commander. Immediately after the flight took off, the First Officer of the flight was asked to relax in the vertical seat (jump seat) and denied his horizontal rest in the bunk beds. When the second set of cockpit crew went to rest she was then moved to the cabin crew rest area," Rao said in his complaint.

The name is the same used by a group of hackers that has targeted Sony in the past, though it was not possible to verify the Twitter account`s authenticity.
