Chandigarh court issues summons to Rahul Gandhi over 'beggar' remark

A judicial magistrate in Chandigarh has summoned Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to present himself in court in connection with a 21-month-old case, wherein he has been accused of allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Rahul Gandhi is said to have asked the people of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as to how long they would beg for work from Maharashtra and Punjab.

Gandhi had made the statement at a Congress rally in Phulpur on November 14, 2011. Judicial Magistrate Jaswinder Singh issued the summons to Rahul Gandhi and asked him to appear in court before September 19.
