Valley turns into fortress for PM-Sonia visit

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi have reached Kishtawar in Jammu and Kashmir.

A security blanket has been thrown around Srinagar for the visit of Dr Singh and Gandhi -- in view of the deadly strike by militants that left eight soldiers dead and several others injured on Monday evening.

Police and paramilitary CRPF personnel have been deployed in numbers across the city. In some places, the army is also conducting foot patrols to prevent the militants from carrying out further attacks during the high-profile visit, official sources said.
