2G case: SC to hear Sunil Mittal, Ravi Ruia's petitions

The Supreme Court will hear the petitions of Sunil Mittal, the chairman of Bharti Airtel and Ravi Ruia, one of the founders of Essar Group, which challenges the summons of a CBI special court the case of alleged irregularities in the allocation of additional 2G spectrum in 2002.

The apex court had last week directed a Central Bureau of Investigation special court to postpone its summons to Mittal until Tuesday, April 16.

Earlier, CBI had told the apex court that investigation into the case has "found evidence against the CMD", was asked to file a short affidavit along with the police report, i.e the charge sheet by last Thursday.

"In the meantine, hearing before the Special Judge/CBI (2G spectrum cases), New Delhi will be postponed till Tuesday (April 16)," a bench headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir had said.

The bench had said that Mittal will file the rejoinder to the CBI affidavit by Saturday and the matter will be heard by it on April 15.

Mittal and Ruia were summoned by the court on April 11 as an accused along with Asim Ghosh, the former head of Vodafone-Essar, and former telecom secretary Shyamal Ghosh. Mittal, Ruia and Ghosh appeared before the court on Thursday.
