West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's statement in New Delhi, a day after her finance minister Amit Mitra was heckled by Left activists outside the Planning Commission.

A calm Mamata Banerjee said that a day after the attack on Mitra, it is only because of her that a bloodbath was prevented in West Bengal. "After 35 years  I have been able to stop a bloodbath in Bengal. Our cadres are peaceful, and all the ruckus is being created by CPM cadre," she said of the protests happening across Bengal.

She said she has cancelled all her meetings today in Delhi, including her meeting finance minister P Chidambaram and would return to Kolkata this afternoon.

She said the PM had called her up and apologised for the incident. "I believe this is the first time such a thing is happening in Delhi. Delhi is not safe. I was manhandled. When I tried to get down at the Planning Commission HQ, the police did not cooperate at all. I also believe, outside elements were involved."

She said she was unwell and had been advised rest. When told that the CPM had condemned the incident, she said, "What condemned? On the one hand, they will kill people, and on the other hand they will condemn the incident. It's all drama."
