Under a barrage of attack from the opposition over his record as President, Barack Obama has asserted that the US economy is definitely better off now than it was four years ago when thousands of jobs were being lost.

Obama, who took over the government when the American economy was struggling with recession, pointed out that as many as 800,000 jobs were being lost in a month at the time, suggesting that things have but improved.

"We are absolutely better off than we were when I was sworn in and we were losing 800 thousand jobs in a month," Obama told a local news channel in Virginia, a battle ground state.
