Rajya Sabha member and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has decided against taking a bungalow allotted to him by the government in New Delhi.

"I am not keen on staying in a government house. It will be a waste of the taxpayers' money. I would prefer to stay in a hotel in Delhi on my own expenses," Tendulkar told CNN-IBN. "I do not need a bungalow just too stay for few days.'

Tendulkar had been allotted 5 Tughlak Lane bungalow, a type VII accommodation normally given to cabinet-rank ministers. The stately house in Lutyen's zone is just opposite the house of Rahul Gandhi, who stays at 12 Tughlak Lane
