Home minister: Source of exodus rumours unknown

Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde speaking in Parliament now on the NE exodus. Shinde says he had spoken to the Karnataka Chief Minister to convince the people they were safe and should not leave. "The state home minister was sent to the station to convince people not to leave Bangalore," he said.

"Have also spoken with different Chief Ministers of different states to ask them to maintain peace."However, messages and runours are still being circulated and we will take action against them. The SMSes and emails that have threatened people from the north east will be traced,' he said and admitted there was no information on source of rumours yet.

The home minister said he appreciated the Karnataka CM for handling the situation well and was investigating the presence of a foreign hand in fuelling the exodus.
