Gujarat, Himachal polls likely in Nov: report
August 01, 2012  09:12
Economic Times reports: The coming round of assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh may be scheduled in November, unlike in 2007, when the polling had stretched until December 19.

The Election Commission is favourably inclined to demands of all political parties in Himachal Pradesh for a single-day polling in the first half of November, according to a Nirvachan Sadan source.

Given the EC's norm of clubbing closely-timed assembly polls in two or more states, it is now a foregone conclusion that Gujarat polls too will be advanced to November. The Gujarat polls were held in two phases, on December 11 and 16, in 2007. The EC source indicated that the polling in Gujarat this time may be held in the second half of November itself, possibly anytime after Diwali, which falls on November 13.
