The Enforcement Directorate will soon attach more than Rs 230 crore worth of properties in connection with the alleged bribe money which the CBI has said was paid illegally to Kalaignar TV in the 2G spectrum scam.
The Directorate has identified various properties in this regard and formal orders will be issued soon. The properties are in the names of various entities, ED sources said. The properties will be attached under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and will be termed as "proceeds of crime" under the Act.
This would be the first attachment order in the 2G case, and the action is expected to be followed by the properties of various telecom firms involved in the case.

The BJP, a vociferous supporter of Anna Hazare, has now said it does not support the August 30 deadline and the picketing of MPs homes.
The government today said it has permitted some naxal-affected states to hire helicopters for supporting security forces involved in anti-Maoist operations.
"To meet the shortfall, the Left Wing Extremism affected states have been permitted to hire helicopters under the security related expenditure scheme on need basis," Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh told Lok Sabha in a
written reply.
Bihar, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa have also projected the requirement of dedicated helicopters to support the security forces deployed in LWE-affected areas.

An Air India Express flight from Singapore to Tiruchirapalli with 100 passengers on board made an emergency landing at Anna International Airport here in the afternoon following a technical snag.

Senior advocate Sushil Kumar defending 47-year-old A Raja in court today said there was nothing wrong in his decision of not auctioning 2G spectrum and that he was merely following the policies pursued by his predecessors and the NDA government.

DMK MP Kanimozhi, M Karunanidhi's daughter tells the Delhi court that the PM, the then Finance Minister and Telecom Minister decided not to auction 2G licences. She also said that the CAG report of Rs 1.76 lakh crore loss in 2G lacks evidenciary value as Parliament is yet to adopt it.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj is one of the members who has given notice for suspension of Question Hour. In the Rajya Sabha, BJP's Prakash Javadekar is among the the MPs who has moved a similar notice. NDA leaders met here this morning to fine tune their floor strategy in both houses of Parliament.
Meanwhile doctors have advised Hazare, not to venture into the sun as it could have a negative impact on his health. Manish Sisodia, a close associate of Hazare, said that medical advice came after doctors examined Hazare at the Ramlila Maidan late night. However, Anna said he was fine and could continue fasting for at least another week.

Civil society activist Arvind Kejriwal today said they want political dialogues since this is a political problem. "It's not a bureaucratic or technical problem it's completely political problem, so solution is also political," he added.
Stating that nobody has met Team Anna officially yet, Kejriwal said, "Nobody has come to us officially yet. Anyone who has come to meet us has come unofficially."
Kejriwal also said the negotiations should be formal and they do not want to speak to informal negotiators. He also asked the people to who are sitting on fast to come out of fast as Anna Hazare is already on fast.

Ratings agency Standard and Poor's today announced that Deven Sharma, the company's Indian-origin President who was at the helm of affairs when S&P downgraded the United States' credit rating, will leave the company by the end of the year.
Taking Sharma's place will be Citibank Chief Operating Officer Douglas Peterson, 53, who will become President of Standard & Poor's effective September 12. Sharma, 55, will take on a special assignment working on S&P's strategic portfolio review "until the end of the year, when he will leave the company to pursue other opportunities," S&P's parent company McGraw Hill said here.
Amid the standoff with Team Anna over the Lokpal Bill, government has convened an all-party meeting tomorrow to find a way to solve the issue. Leaders of all political parties have been invited to attend the meet scheduled for 3.30 pm tomorrow.
Sources said government is of the view that some of the demands put forth by Hazare and his associates require a wider political consensus before a decision could be taken.
