The Shatrughan Sinha Chat

Shatrughan Sinha was smoooooth.’' That’s how George Iype, our special correspondent in Delhi, summed the chat with the actor-politician. The Bihari babu remained at the keyboard at the Cyber Club at the Maurya Sheraton for nearly an hour-and-a-half.

From politics to Amitabh Bachchan to Reena Roy to the beautification of Patna, Shotgun answered a wide range of questions with liberal touches of his quips and humour. Amongst several others, for Babu Ismail, Kalicharan, Vijay from Deewar, and not to forget the favourite one -- Shikha, the flamboyant Shatru bhaiya was a high scorer on the Rediff Chat.

In case you’ve missed good ol’ Shatru in action and want to know his first love, his weakness and whether he will be the chief minister of Bihar... catch him now!

Hi Kamini where are you from?

Kamini Verma (Thu May 15 1997 19:32 IST)

Mr Sinha: Which one do you like? Acting films or acting in politics?

Shamsher (Thu May 15 1997 19:33 IST)

Actually Kamini save your questions for some more time, start with them 15 mins to 8 so that when mr sinha enters the room he sees your questions first:-) neat technique no?

Shamsher (Thu May 15 1997 19:35 IST)

Although I think he likes acting cause even as a politican one has to SAY a lot of things with a lot of emotion:-) and if its comes to that NO politican can beat him, unless its more in the takkar of the Deve Gowda types who are sitting with piles of documents to refute every point they make

Good evening Mr Sinha, its a real pleasure to be able to speak to you. Coming from the same state as me, what do you think is most essential to lift Bihar from the condition it is in today. A recent report has even slotted it as the poorest state in India. What can be done. Is there a way out? If yes, what?

dpawan (Thu May 15 1997 19:59 IST)

Mr. Singh, you once told you want to be a Chief Minister and then one day Prime Minister, have you entered politics for your progress or of the state/country?

Mangal from Kala Pathar (Thu May 15 1997 20:0 IST)

Oye, Shatrubhaiya, tum kaise ho? How did a sensible chap like you join the BJP? Aur koi party tumhe lene tyaar nahin te kya?

Ollly (Thu May 15 1997 20:0 IST)

Hi Venkat

ranjit (Thu May 15 1997 20:1 IST)

jaai raam ji ki Shatru bhayya

Dr. Varinder Sharma (Thu May 15 1997 20:2 IST)

Dear Shatru: Bihar is bleeding internally to death due to the caste-based politics and so is India. Financially, it has become the Zaire of India--naturally rich but cursed with unscruplous politicians. It needs a charismatic person like you to bring it back to normalcy. What would it take you to get serious in the governing of this state? Dr. Varinder Sharma

Ollly (Thu May 15 1997 20:3 IST)

Mr Sinha: I always wanted to ask you one question, did you find Mr Amitabh Bachchan a threat ever as an actor?? Do you see him as a poineer who paved the way for Bollywood actors to turn to politics? What do you think about the current ABCL fiasco?

Shatrughan Sinha (Thu May 15 1997 20:3 IST)

Hello everybody !

Ollly (Thu May 15 1997 20:4 IST)

HELLO MR SINHA:-)

Shikha (Thu May 15 1997 20:5 IST)

Mr Sinha, with the BJP giving a tough time to the JD in Bihar and making a considerable advance in Laloo's turf, a lot of it which has been your contribution through your rigrous campaign tours, do you credit yourself for it. What about your party. Does it think the same?

Vijay (Thu May 15 1997 20:5 IST)

Do you think Laloo Yadav should resign?

Krish (Thu May 15 1997 20:5 IST)

Mr.Sinha, do you think that the present polical situation in Bihar,is a oppurtinty for you

A. (Thu May 15 1997 20:7 IST)

A. K - 4 7. Who do you think will replace the C. M . Can Bihar ever recover from its current pathetic state?

Krish (Thu May 15 1997 20:7 IST)

Mr.Sinha....r u really in...

Kaalicharan (Thu May 15 1997 20:7 IST)

Hello Mr Sinha, what do you think about the current films of Subhash Ghai who established himself when he used your ablities to boost his career?

Mangal (Thu May 15 1997 20:7 IST)

Shatrubhaiya, I believe the RSS chaps hate you and your pomposity. Please compare dealing with them and dealing with Amitabh.

dpawan (Thu May 15 1997 20:9 IST)

Mr. Sinha, you once told you want to be a Chief Minister and then one day Prime Minister, have you entered politics for your progress or of the state/country?

Vijay from Deewar (Thu May 15 1997 20:10 IST)

The fact is, you always disliked AB because he was a superstar and you were an also-ran. Isn't that true, Mr Sinha? Or would you prefer to discuss politics here and not films?

Shikha (Thu May 15 1997 20:10 IST)

Mr Sinha, I have never been able to clearly understand your political aspiration. Do you see yourself as a dutiful party worker like you have proved to be, or would you like to see yourself in a greater position of power in the party hierarchy? Please explain.

KHAMOSH (Thu May 15 1997 20:10 IST)

Mr Sinha: What do you think has gone wrong with your former teaching place FTII, what can be done to restore it back to its former state. What changes woul you recommend

Shatrughan Sinha (Thu May 15 1997 20:10 IST)

Dear Dr. Varindar Sharma: It does not really need a charismatic person like me to bring back Bihar to normalcy, it also requires besides a good leader a dedicated and committed team, strong willpower and awareness and awakening among the people. Bihar has been one of the richest states of the country in terms of sources, resources, minerals, rivers, jungles and manpower. But cause of the corrupt and over-ambitious leaders, Bihar has turned into one of the poorest and most chaotic states in the country. To bring back Bihar to normalcy certainly looks difficult but not really impossible - but overnight solutions are a problem, can't be expected. All said and done, therefore 4 p's in bihar are : Peace Prosperity Progress Pride. If and when we come to power we intend tackling it certainly on a war footing. Sooner the better !!

Shatrughan Sinha (Thu May 15 1997 20:14 IST)

Dear Shikha, I have no personal political aspiration or ambition. God has been very kind to me. I am in politics sincerely and selflessly without any command, demand, complaints or personal expectations.

A. (Thu May 15 1997 20:15 IST)

Do you favour President`s rule in your native place. What do you predict?

Shareef Badmash (Thu May 15 1997 20:16 IST)

Mr Sinha, what are the five lessons you have learnt from your stint in politics?
