Legendary singer Tina Turner dies at 83

Tina Turner, the US-born singer and stage performer who left a hardscrabble farming community and abusive marriage to become one of the top artists of all time, died in Switzerland on Wednesday, reported Reuters.   

She was 83. 

Turner died following prolonged illness in her home near Zurich, Switzerland, said the report quoting her representative. 

She started her career in the 1950s during the early years of rock and roll and evolved into an MTV phenomenon. 

Turner was one of the world's most popular entertainers, known for a core of pop, rock and rhythm and blues favourites: Proud Mary, Nutbush City Limits, River Deep, Mountain High

The hits she had in the '80s, included What's Love Got to Do with It, We Don't Need Another Hero and a cover of Al Green's Let's Stay Together.
