It warms the cockles of our heart to announce that George Joseph, the affable, easy-going journalist from the US who is so clued into the happenings within the Indian American community, has been picked for the Global Indian News Lifetime Achievement Award.

George, as he is fondly known, was a dear colleague in the heady days when Rediff.com acquired the hoary India Abroad newspaper 2001, and was known for his connections into and knowledge of Indian-American affairs.

George Joseph comes from a time when diaspora news was more about the community than about the politics, and to our mind there cannot be a better choice than this veteran chronicler of desi affairs for the lifetime achievement award.

The Global Indian News Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to George Joseph at a glittering ceremony in Houston by Missouri City Judge K P George, Abraham Varkey, Fr Roy Varghese and Jacob Kudashanad.

In his remarks George said that such platforms that recognise media workers are wonderful.

Among others present at the award ceremony were president of Indian Christian Ecumenical Church Rev Fr Abraham Zakaria, former Ambassador and Rediff's eminent columnist T P Sreenivasan, and many others.
