Varanasi's MP MLA court awards life imprisonment to jailed mafia Mukhtar Ansari in 1991 Awadhesh Rai murder case.

A special MP-MLA court in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi convicted jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari in the over three decades old murder case of Awadhesh Rai.

On August 3, 1991, Congress leader and brother of former MLA Ajay Rai, Awadhesh Rai, was shot dead outside Ajay Rai's house in Varanasi. The court is expected to pronounce the quantum of sentence in the case after 2 pm today, advocate Vikash Singh told ANI.
