A chadar on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was offered during the Urs of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at the Ajmer dargah on Wednesday.

A chadar on behalf of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was also presented.

The Urs commemorates the death anniversary of Chishti, one of the most notable Sufi saints who was also known as Gharib Nawaz or the benefactor of the poor, and draws a large crowd.

Wishing Chishti's followers all over the world on the occasion of the 811th Urs, Modi pointed towards the rich heritage of the country where there is a harmonious co-existence of various beliefs and faiths.

"Seers, pirs and fakirs have always strengthened the cultural fabric of the nation through the message of peace, unity and harmony," the prime minister's message in Hindi read.

"Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti is the symbol of the great spiritual traditions of India. The service of humanity done by Gharib Nawaz will keep on inspiring generations," Modi said.
