SC to hear plea on probe into Atiq killing on 24th

Supreme Court agrees to hear on April 24 a plea seeking to constitute an independent expert committee under the chairmanship of a former Supreme Court judge to inquire into the killing of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf in police presence.

Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead on April 15 in Prayagraj. The incident took place when the brothers were being taken for a medical checkup. Police arrested three assailants on the spot involved in the crime, who posed as TV reporters.

The three accused have been identified as Sunny Singh, Lovelesh Tiwari and Arun Maurya. The police are also checking the CCTV footage installed at the crime scene and nearby areas.

Several cases of unlawful activities have been registered against the assailants by the UP Police.
