Blackout in Kyiv

As northern India spends nights huddled under blankets, some with room heaters, spare a thought for Ukraine where temperatures are sub zero. There is no electricity in the capital city, Kyiv. 

Oleksandra Matviichuk, who runs the Centre for Civil Liberties, which shared the Nobel Peace prize this year, writes, "We have no electricity, but Ukrainians have a lot of light in our hearts."

Russians have bombed the city and its utilities.
