Angry mob set Batadrava police station on fire in Assam's Nagaon district after a person allegedly died in police custody.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that the officer in-charge of the police station has been suspended following the incident.

"We take the unfortunate death of Safiqul Islam very seriously and have put the OC of Batadraba PS on suspension....If there is any foul play at our end, we mean to find that and punish the guilty according to the law," said the DGP.

The DGP further said that local bad elements took law into their own hands and burnt down the police station.

"We don't think these are grieving relatives of the dead, but as we have identified, they were bad characters and their relatives with criminal records- records that were there within the PS," he said.

"We're investigating the allegations. Three 3 have been detained from among persons who attacked the police station. To police personnel have been injured in attack," said Nagaon superintendent of police  Leena Doley. -- ANI
