Protests in Sholapur, Maharashtra

Massive protests erupted across the country including in Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and cities in Uttar Pradesh on Friday over remarks by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and her former colleague Naveen Jindal that have triggered an international row.

Punjab: After a protest call by Ludhiana Jama Masjid, protests were held across Punjab demanding the arrest of those who disrespected the Prophet.

Delhi: The demonstrations in Delhi took place outside the Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, after the Friday prayers. The protesters demanded the arrest of Nupur Sharma and dispersed after about an hour.

UP: Hundreds of protesters were also seen taking to the streets and shops shutting down in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur, Moradabad and Prayagraj and other cities. Prayagraj ADG's vehicle damaged. The ADG was on ground to control the law & order situation as a protest erupted.

Maharashtra: Women carry out a protest march in Navi Mumbai A large number of people carry out a protest march in Solapur as well.

Telangana: Protests take place outside Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad against the controversial remarks by suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma. Later, with the intervention of the Police, protesters were dispersed from the spot. Police force & CRPF deployed in the area now.

West Bengal: A large number of people gather in protest at Park Circus in Kolkata against the controversial religious remarks by suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma and expelled leader Naveen Jindal. Protests were also held at Howrah.

Jammu and Kashmir: Protesters took to the streets in Srinagar.
