Filmmaker Onir reacts to the Defense Ministry rejecting his film script inspired by the real-life story of a gay major.

A sequel to his national award-winning film 'I Am', the film was scheduled to be partially shot in Kolkata from April.

Lieutenant Colonel Sachin Ujjwal of the Army's ADG Strategic Communications Branch sent an email to the director on Wednesday stating that "the script has not been cleared by the IHQ of the MoD (Army). I wish you all the best in your future endeavors."

Onir tweeted, "75 years of independence, more than three years since he Supreme Court of india had decriminalised homosexuality but as a society we are a long way from being treated as equals . While 56 countries across the world accepts #lgbtqi in the army ,it is still illegal the indian army."
