CISF tells airlines to strictly implement 1 handbag rule

Airlines should strictly implement the one hand bag per passenger rule, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has said. The CISF has red-flagged air travellers carrying more than 2-3 cabin bags and asked the aviation authorities to strictly implement the one hand bag rule.

Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) rules stipulate that no passenger carry more than one hand bag barring a few exceptions like a woman's handbag and a laptop bag, weighing up to 7 kg. The CISF wants this rule to be prominently displayed on tickets and boarding passes.

However, it has been seen that (a) passenger on an average carries 2-3 hand bags to screening point. This has led to increased clearance time as well as delays, congestion in pre-embarkation security check (PESC) point and inconvenience to passengers. It is therefore felt that enforcement of the aforesaid Circulars must be ensured by all stakeholders/ airlines, CISF IG (airport sector) Vijay Prakash wrote to BCAS on January 19.

The senior IPS official has asked BCAS to instruct airlines and airport operators to implement one hand bag rule meticulously to ease out congestion and other security concerns.
