China halts dialogue with US on climate change, military issues, anti-drug work in retaliation for Nancy Pelosi's Taiwan visit.
China said Friday that more than 100 warplanes and 10 warships have taken part in live-fire military drills surrounding Taiwan over the past two days, while announcing sanctions on US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over her visit to the self-governing island earlier this week.
National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said China has chosen to overreact and use the speaker's visit as a pretext to increase provocative military activity in and around the Taiwan Strait.
