Breaking news: Precaution vaccination against Covid-19 will now be available to the 18+ population group from April 10 at private vaccination centres: Ministry of Health.

Precautionary doses are called booster doses all over the world.

Those who are 18 years of age and have completed 9 months after the administration of the second dose are eligible for precaution dose at private vaccination centres, the government said.

"The ongoing free vaccination programme through government vaccination centres for the first and second dose to the eligible population as well as precaution dose to healthcare workers, frontline workers and 60+ population would continue and would be accelerated," the government added.

India is one of the few countries which has not given booster Covid vaccination for people below the age of 60. Only frontline workers and healthcare workers are allowed booster doses irrespective of age.

The WHO and virologists world over have recommended booster doses to reduce fatalities and Covid-related health complications.

Several countries have in fact begun giving the fourth dose of Covid vaccine because efficacy normally lasts from between four to six months.

Finally, sense prevails.
