The Supreme Court says farmers have the right to protest, but roads can't be blocked indefinitely.

The court asks the farmers' unions to file their response on a petition seeking removal of protesting farmers from roads and posts the matter for hearing on December 7.

Main highways into and out of Delhi have been partially blocked since  November 2020 inconveniencing local residents as well as travellers.

In a hearing held earlier this month, the court held that it is the "duty' of the executive to implement the law on ensuring agitations do not block movement on public roads before such protests start being viewed as an incentive by one section of society or another
