You are dragging your feet: SC to UP on Lakhimpur

Supreme Court starts hearing a PIL concerning the Lakhimpur Kheri violence in which 8 persons, including 4 farmers, were killed during a farmers' protest on October 3.

"We think you are dragging your feet. You please dispel this," the SC tells the UP government on the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

Senior advocate Harish Salve appearing for UP government tells the SC that a status report in a sealed cover has been filed in the case.

CJI says the judges were waiting till 1 am last night for UP government's status report on the Lakhimpur incident but 'received nothing'.

Salve tells court that the status report has just been filed in a sealed cover. "We said nothing about sealed covers," says the bench.

Judges refuse to adjourn matter for Friday after a request from Salve.

Statements of four out of 44 witnesses have been recorded by judicial magistrate in Lakhimpur Kheri case, UP Govt tells SC.
