Be proactive in wake of new Covid variant: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday alerted the people about the need to be proactive in the wake of the identification of new COVID variant. 

Modi chaired a comprehensive meeting which lasted for almost 2 hours to review the public health preparedness and vaccination-related situation for COVID-19 on Saturday morning, said the Prime Minister's Office. 

Officials briefed Modi about the new variant of Concern 'Omicron' along with its characteristics and impact seen in various countries. 

Its implications for India were also discussed in the meeting. 

The PM spoke about the need to be proactive in light of the new variant, said the PMO. 

Modi  highlighted need for monitoring all international arrivals, their testing as per guidelines, with a specific focus on countries identified 'at risk'. 

He also asked officials to review plans for easing international travel restrictions in light of the emerging new evidence, said the PMO. 

The PM directed officials to work closely with state governments to ensure that there is proper awareness at state and district levels. 

He also directed that intensive containment & active surveillance should continue in clusters reporting higher cases, said the PMO. -- ANI
