9 of 10 districts with max Covid cases are in Maha

Of the top 10 districts in the country with high active Covid-19 cases, nine are from Maharashtra and one is from Karnataka, the Union health ministry said on Wednesday.

The 10 districts where the maximum active cases are concentrated Pune, Nagpur, Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Aurangabad, Nanded, Jalgaon, Akola (all in Maharashtra) and Bengaluru Urban, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said.

The recent surge in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra and Punjab is of grave concern, the Union health ministry admitted, and said that about 88 per cent of all Covid-19 deaths in India is in the age group of 45 years and above.

There is also no linkage yet to show that the recent surge in Covid-19 cases is due to the new variants detected abroad, the ministry said.
