New cases of coronavirus are on a sharp rise in Punjab. The state recorded 1,071 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, the highest since November 2020. The daily number of active cases in Punjab surged by 671, while the number of daily deaths rose by 15. The figures for the daily rise in active cases and deaths are the worst in the country, after Maharashtra.

The five districts in Punjab that have seen the maximum number of daily cases are Jalandhar (242), Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar (147), Hoshiarpur (115), S.A.S Nagar (111), and Ludhiana (106).

Punjab, Karnataka, and Kerala are the only three states where the number of new Covid-19 cases is more than 1,000 so far. The infection has sharply increased in Punjab and Maharashtra, while it has moderately risen in Kerala.
