TMC writes to EC for PM's pic on vaccine paper

The Trinamool Congress has written to the Election Commission of India in connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modis photo, name and message being used on digital Covid-19 vaccination certificates given to beneficiaries.

TMC MP Derek O'Brien put out a tweet saying that his party would approach the Election Commission over the issue, especially since the MCC has come into force post the announcement of election dates last week.

In his letter to Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, TMC MP Derek OBrien said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is "debarred from publicising his name and claiming credit in this manner through governments Co-WIN platform of vaccination after dates for Assembly elections in four states and a Union Territory were announced.

He also urged the chief election commissioner to stop PM Modi from taking unfair advantage and undue publicity at taxpayers cost during the conduct of elections.

TMC Rajya Sabha MP and former Indian Medical Association chief Santanu Sen termed the decision to place PM Modi's photo on the certificates given to those who have recieved the Covid vaccine a "publicity stunt". He also questioned why the prime minister took the vaccine shot without wearing the mask, which he says is against the World Health Organization norms.
