SII begins production of gamechanger Covavax

Pune-based Serum Institute India, the world's largest manufacturer of vaccines, announced that a new milestone has been reached. "This week we began our first batch of Covovax (a COVID-19 vaccine developed by Novavax) at our facility," SII sources said.

However, SII can't scale up production until the US provides raw materials.

The SII has also initiated the phase II and phase III bridging trials for the vaccine.

In January, the SII announced plans to conduct clinical trials of the Covid-19 vaccine in the country with hopes to launch it in June, but will now likely be available in September.
