Twitter India has responded to the legal notice issued by the Ghaziabad Police regarding the viral video of an elderly man being assaulted in Loni, Ghaziabad.

Twitter India Managing Director Manish Maheshwari said he is available on video conferencing to explain the issue to the concerned authorities. While clarifying that he does not deal with the matter at hand, Maheshwari said he is willing to be questioned by the police.

Ghaziabad Police is not satisfied with the social media giants response and is mulling if it should send a second notice. The police are also reportedly seeking legal counsel on whether or not to take up Twitter India on its offer.

If accepted, the video call will be made by an official at the level of Senior Superintendent or Superintendent of Police.

In the legal notice mailed to Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari last Thursday, the police had directed him to come to the Loni Border Police Station and record a statement within seven days. Maheshwari and several others are accused of sharing the video of the elderly man being assaulted in Loni with the alleged intent of "provoking communal unrest".

The Ghaziabad Police has claimed that there is no communal angle to the incident and, in its FIR, accused The Wire, Rana Ayyub, Mohammad Zubair, Dr Shama Mohammed, Saba Naqvi, Maskoor Usmani, Slaman Nizami of giving communal colour to the incident on Twitter.
