The Supreme Court bench led by Justice Hemant Gupta orders that the Delhi High Court order granting bail to Asif Iqbal Tanha, Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal in the Delhi Riots case to be not treated as a precedent. The accused will remain on bail at this stage.

The Supreme Court's two-judge vacation bench was hearing the appeal filed by the Delhi Police challenging the Delhi High Court's order granting bail to the three activists in the Northeast Delhi riots case.

The SC said reading down the anti-terror law UAPA is an important issue and can have pan-India ramifications. The Delhi HC verdicts granting bail to the three student activists will not be used by others in securing same relief as precedent and that the release of the activists on bail by the HC is not interfered with at this stage.
