Japanese officials sounded the alarm on Thursday as Tokyo reported record-breaking coronavirus cases for the third straight day with Olympics well underway. Tokyo reported 3,865 new cases Thursday on Wednesday, setting an all-time high since the pandemic began. Japan's National Institute of Infectious Disease (NIID) has estimated that the highly contagious delta variant is responsible for nearly 80% of infections in Tokyo.
