The COVID-19 vaccination drive began across country after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the world's biggest drive via via video conferencing.

Addressing the nation ahead of the launch, Modi reminded people that two doses of vaccine are very important and asked them to maintain wearing masks and social distancing even after receiving the jabs. 
"'Dawai bhi, kadai bhi," he said. 

Doctors, nurses and healthcare workers were vaccinated at different designated centres across the country. 

Manish Kumar, a sanitation worker, was among the first persons to receive COVID-19 vaccine jab at AIIMS, Delhi in presence of Union health minister Harsh Vardhan.

AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria alos received the COVID-19 vaccine jab.

Around 3 lakh healthcare workers will be inoculated at 2,934 sites across the country on the first day of the massive nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive which is set to begin from January 16, official sources said.
