Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday arrived in Surat, Gujarat, to "thank" the people of the city, where his party has put up an impressive show by winning 27 seats in the recently-held civic polls and emerging as the main opposition in the municipal corporation.

Addressing the newly elected AAP corporators as well as its volunteers in Surat, Kejriwal said, "Why has the BJP been governing here for last 25 years? It's not as if they're doing great. There are a lot of issues. Different parties come to power in states across the country but only one party is governing here."

"It's because they've kept other parties under control. There's no one to tell them anything, they're doing whatever they want. For the first time there came someone to look them in the eye -- you -- the people gave you respect."

"I've been listening to statements of the BJP and Congress over the past few days after the results. They're perturbed, a little scared. We've to understand that they're not scared of you or AAP. They're scared of the people who voted for you," Kejriwal added.

Kejriwal will take part in a road show in the city at 3 pm. It will begin from Varracha area and end at Sarthana, where he will address a public meeting.
