Women's panel sends notice on Disha's arrest

Delhi Commission for Women on Tuesday sent a notice to Deputy Police Commissioner, Cyber Crime Cell, Delhi Police over climate activist Disha Ravi's arrest in the toolkit case. 
The Delhi Commission for Women has sent a notice to the Delhi Police over the allegations that due procedure was not followed after Disha Ravi was "picked up" on Sunday from her house in Bengaluru.

The Delhi Commission for Women asked the Delhi Police to provide a copy of the FIR, reasons for allegedly not producing her before a local court for transit, "not providing the lawyer of her choice" when she was produced before the Patiala House court and a detailed action taken report.

"It has been alleged that she was brought to Delhi from Bengaluru with no disclosure of her whereabouts, not even to her parents. It has been alleged that she [Disha Ravi] was taken to Delhi for Bengaluru without presenting her before a local court for transit remand."

The notice reads: "It has been further alleged that Ms. Disha Ravi was produced before a court in Delhi without a lawyer of her choice being present in the court. This is a very serious matter."

"In the light of the above, please provide the following information to the Commission: (i) Copy of the FIR registered in the matter, (ii) Reasons for allegedly not producing the arrested girl before the local court for transit remand, (iii) reasons for allegedly not providing a lawyer of her choice to the girl when she was produced before the court in Delhi, (iv) detailed action taken report in the matter," the notice read.

Delhi Police has been asked to provide the details by February 19, 2021.

Disha Ravi, a 21-year-old climate activist, was "picked up" from Bengaluru in Karnataka for questioning in Greta Thunberg "toolkit" case on Sunday. The student-cum-activist, identified as Disha Ravi, was picked up from her house in Soladevanahalli area of Bengaluru in connection with the case regarding 'toolkit', shared by Greta Thunberg in connection with the farmers' protest. Disha Ravi is accused of disseminating the toolkit.
