West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee met the families of those killed in Sitalkuchi, Cooch Behar, violence. She is at a place called Mathabhanga which translated, literally means: matha: head, bhanga: broken.

"Didi came to meet us here and said that she would help us as soon as the election ends. She consoled and gave us hope. We trust her," say family members of those killed in Sitalkuchi violence

An 18-year-old first-time voter was shot dead in Sitalkuchi when he had queued up to vote on Saturday.

In a separate incident, central forces shot dead four voters allegedly in self-defense the same day.

Soon after the incidents of violence on Saturday, the Election Commission banned all political leaders from entering Cooch Behar district for 72 hours. Later, the poll watchdog banned Banerjee from campaigning for another 24 hours for her remarks against central forces and for appealing against a split in the Muslim votes.

The EC said she had violated the poll code.
