Health ministry presser: Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan:

"We have administered 43 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine in 24 hours yesterday, which is a record. As a result of today morning, we administered 8.31 crores doses of the vaccine.

"We have deployed 50 high-level multidisciplinary public health teams in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh & Punjab. They will be going to 30 districts of Maharashtra, 11 districts of Chhattisgarh, and 9 districts of Punjab.

"US has a daily average of 30.53 lakh doses of vaccine administration, whereas 26.53 lakhs of vaccine doses are administered in India daily. As per a website, US has administered 16 crore doses in 112 days, while India administered 7.9 crores doses in 79 days.

"Around 4.5% of deaths due to COVID are being reported in Punjab. Compared to Punjab, active cases & death toll are very low in Delhi & Haryana. It is satisfactory that share of RT-PCR tests in average daily tests has increased to 76% in Punjab. They will assist state health department & district administrations in surveillance, control & containment measures. They will be submitting daily reports to state govt & Union Health Ministry.

"Chhattisgarh is a cause of concern for us. Despite being a small state, it reports 6% of total COVID cases & 3% of total deaths in the country. The condition of Chhattisgarh has deteriorated in the second wave of infections."

Dr VK Paul, Member-Health, Niti Aayog: "The impact of the pandemic has increased in the country. Warnings were given that the situation should not be taken for granted. The situation of pandemic has worsened and the speed of increasing COVID19 cases is higher than last time. PM Modi has called for Jan Bhagidari and Jan Andolan for COVID-19 management. We can still control the pandemic."
