Sec 144 reimposed in Mumbai but no new lockdown

Amid the surging coronavirus cases in the city, the Mumbai police has re-imposed Section 144 of the CrPC from midnight of Wednesday which will be applicable till September 30, as part of Mission Begin Again.

'Mumbai city continues to be threatened with the spread of Covid-19, it is considered expedient to issue prohibitory order for restricting any presence or movement of one or more persons in public places or gathering of any sort anywhere, including religious places...' the order stated.

'The order was issued as per the guidelines of the state government on August 31 regarding easing of restrictions, 7 phase-wise opening of lockdown, and no new restrictions have been imposed by the Mumbai police and every activity will continue normally,' the deputy commissioner of police has clarified.

'This is a routine order and there has been no change in Unlock guidelines. Unlocking to go on as per the 31.08.2020 government of Maharashtra orders and all activities mentioned in the GoM's Mission Begin Again orders are exempted. This is routine order, the police issues one every 15 days so that people will maintain social distancing while out on the streets,' said constable Kamble on behalf of the DCP (operations).
