Allahabad HC to monitor CBI probe in Hathras case

The Supreme Court says that the Allahabad High Court will monitor the CBI probe into the Hathras alleged gang-rape case. A three-judge bench headed by CJI SA Bobde says so far as transfer of Hathras case to Delhi is concerned, it is appropriate for the CBI to conclude probe and it will be decided later. The SC says the Allahabad HC will consider all aspects, CBI will file status reports there.

The 19-year old woman was allegedly raped by four men on September 14. She succumbed to severe assault injuries at a Delhi hospital a fortnight later which was followed by a hushed up cremation at night allegedly forced by the district administration.

The brutal injuries suffered by the woman and the administration's move to cremate her body late at night triggered massive outrage among people resulting in a pitched political battle from Delhi to Hathras.
