Modi to Bengal: On the occasion of Durga puja, you will be celebrating a muted puja because of Covid. Don't forget to maintain social distancing. Durga is celebrated and welcomed as a daughter, as Durgati Nashani, a destroyer of poverty or evil. She epitomises Shakti, or power.

He then draws a comparison between Durga who slays poverty and epitomises women's emancipation, and the BJP with their several schemes for women. "Amar shontaan jano thake doodhe-bhaate. May my child always be fed, this is what the BJP promises to do for you," he says.

"This is the land from where Bankimchandra Chattopadhyaya and Rabindranath Tagore called for the emancipation and the economic independence of Bengal. We need to fulfil their promises. The BJP has built homes for 30 lakh poor in Bengal, and cooking gas to 90 lakh households. The Jal Jeevan Mission has ensured clean water to 4 lakh houses. In Kolkata, the east-west metro corridor has been given funds from the Centre.
Highways, broadband connectivity, is being done," he says.
